JOHANNESBURG - An orange level five weather warning has been issued for Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) reports that the severe downpours are expected to begin on Sunday and continue until early next week.
Forecaster Samkelisiwe Thwala has further warned that this inclement weather could lead to property and infrastructure damage.
Thwala advised that the conditions could impact traffic and urged pedestrians to avoid crossing flooded bridges, roads and rivers.
“The public is also advised to move to higher ground if the water levels are rising. The public is also advised to refrain from travelling on bridges or roads in low-lying areas - which are particularly vulnerable to flooding.”
