Parts of California have been destroyed by out-of-control wildfires.

Thousands of structures have burnt down and nearly 180,000 residents have received evacuation orders.

According to BBC, the biggest fires are uncontained and made worse by weather conditions including extreme heat and no rain.

Midgley says this has been the driest winter on record and has highlighted the disastrous impacts of climate change.

“The lesson for us is that even the richest part of the world, which is one of the best prepared for these events, has been overwhelmed by this climate event.”
