There is a massive protest action outside the KwaDukuza magistrates' court in northern KwaZulu-Natal, where the three men linked to the mass murder of seven Monswamy family members will make their first appearance.
Various political parties are also in attendance, including KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli.
The DA's Privi Makham says the party will be calling for a harsh sentence when the time comes.
“We are here in solidarity with the community of Newark and the family. What we are hoping for today is absolutely no bail, but the broader dialogue and the broader call is for improved rural safety and stronger convictions and maximum sentences.”
The ANC's Sihle Mngadi added his voice.
“We hope that the law enforcement will work night and day in order for them to be able to arrest the 4th suspect, who is currently at large.”
And MK Vishnugopal Govender has also weighed in
“We are angry and are here to make sure that those scavengers don’t get bail.”
