JOHANNESBURG - Not all members of the African National Congress’s (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) supported the decision to reconfigure its Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal structures.
However, the party said now that its highest decision-making body in between conferences had made a decision, all members would be expected to fall in line.
The party held a media briefing on Monday at Luthuli House in Johannesburg to communicate the outcomes taken during this weekend’s ANC NEC meeting.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula said it was impossible for everyone in the 87-member committee to agree on one thing.
"The discussion in the NEC was robust, it started with the officials. You are right, we didn’t all have the same view on the matter in terms of the officials. We didn’t have the same view as the NWC (National Working Committee). We went to the NEC and the NEC is the supreme body. We didn’t have a dominant view over the other at the NEC. In the end, we came up with what I have explained to you."
Fikile Mbalula, ANC Secretary General, said between tomorrow and next week Monday, officials of the party will draw up a plan of how the leadership structures of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal will be reconfigured.
