JOHANNESBURG - Tributes are pouring in following news of the passing of South African billionaire, Douw Steyn.
His family has confirmed that the visionary behind Steyn City died at the age of 73, following a long illness.
Steyn was best known for his Auto & General insurance business in South Africa.
He was also a great friend to late former President Nelson Mandela, who stayed at his home following his release from prison.
His business partners say he will be remembered as an exceptional entrepreneur who built a global business of immense scale across seven countries.
"When Madiba started working on what was intended to be a sequel to Long Walk Freedom and its provisional title was The Presidential Years, he started working on that manuscript in 1998 and over some years, Douw would provide Madiba with support as he went into retreat mode writing that second memoir - which he never finished."
