Rea Vaya commuters forced to seek alternative transport as services remain suspended

JOHANNESBURG - Rea Vaya commuters are once again forced to seek alternative transport, as services for the bus operator remain suspended for a second day.  

Operations were temporarily stopped on Tuesday after two drivers were shot dead in Soweto on Monday in separate attacks.

Police are investigating the motives for the shootings.  

Commuters who rely on the bus service have been inconvenienced once again on Wednesday morning, as all 58 Rea Vaya bus stations remain shut.  

The City of Johannesburg said it is working with law enforcement, the taxi industry, and other partners to come up with a safety plan that would see bus drivers escorted to every station.  

For now, commuters remain stranded, scrambling to find other ways to reach their destinations.
