The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling for urgent accountability from the Education, Training and Development Practices (ETDP) Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) over more than R637 million in allegedly mismanaged discretionary grants.

The party said the funds, meant to support bursaries and work-integrated learning for the youth, are under scrutiny following the Auditor-General's findings that point to missing records and serious governance failures.

According to the DA, the report highlights poor record-keeping, inaccurate financial reporting, and a lack of disciplinary action against officials linked to wasteful spending.

DA member of Parliament (MP) Karabo Khakhau said that the party has written to Parliament, demanding that the SETA leadership appear before the portfolio committee to account for the alleged mismanagement.

“The leadership of the ETDP SETA must account before Parliament and explain where they spent that money, and who spent that money. They must account for each and every rand.”
