17 February 2025 | 14:18Thousands of South African’s UIF claims have been stuck in a digital void for months.
John Maytham speaks to Acting UIF Commissioner Advocate Mzie Yawa.
Listen to the interview below:
uFiling is a free online service that enables users to submit documents electronically to the Department of Employment and Labour.
Its meant to help streamline Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) claims.
But, the system has been plagued with issues.
Claims will be submitted, and case numbers will be generated, but the process often freezes there.
This has been an ongoing issue for months, affecting thousands of South Africans.
Desperate applicants have tried to queue outside labour centres as early as 3 am but have had no luck.
Yawa says the department has begun the process of rolling out a revamped uFiling system across the country.
The system should be fully online by 1 April, but he says it is running smoothly so far.
The new system is online at the Cape Town Labour Centre.
