JOHANNESBURG - Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu has commended Gauteng police for managing to foil a cash-in-transit heist and a robbery in separate incidents in Soweto.
Two suspects who were part of a group targeting the cash van were killed during a shootout with police in the area on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, four others were shot by officers after they tried to steal items from two courier vehicles.
The minister’s spokesperson, Kamogelo Mogotsi, said six other suspects were arrested.
"In his commendation, Minister Mchunu expressed the following: The success of these operations is a testament to the dedication and coordination of our law enforcement agencies. The fatal wounding of six suspects means we are now less six active criminals who were waiting to commit murder and robbery."
