The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has reaffirmed its support for the people of Palestine, saying South Africans know the pain of apartheid and land grabs.

JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has reaffirmed its support for the people of Palestine, saying South Africans know the pain of apartheid and land grabs.

During their land reclamation day rally in Sophiatown on Sunday, the EFF observed the day Dutch colonizer, Jan van Riebeeck landed in South Africa more than 300 years ago.

Red berets leader, Julius Malema, said that a lot of the country’s challenges could be traced back to Van Riebeeck's arrival.

Malema also highlighted the parallels between South Africa's struggle and Palestine, which remains under Israeli occupation.

"The reason why we support Palestine it is because Sophiatown was like Palestine at some point. We know forced removals, land dispossession and therefore the struggle of Palestine is our struggle."
