The alleged triggerman Abubaker Adams appeared with the woman believed to be the mastermind for the first time on Wednesday.

CAPE TOWN - The case against two suspects linked to an alleged hit at the Wynberg Magistrates Court has been postponed for one of the accused to get a lawyer.

The alleged triggerman, Abubaker Adams, appeared with the woman believed to be the mastermind for the first time on Wednesday.

The pair is accused of having a hand in the murder of 50-year-old Dingalomoya Chintso inside the same court building two weeks ago.

Prosecutors believe Adams was the hired gun in the assassination of the Vrygrond taxi operator earlier in April.

Chintso was consulting his lawyers outside Court D when he was attacked in the corridor.

The court heard that Adams does not have a lawyer to take his case after the Legal Aid board could not assign someone to represent him.

The board said that due to its officials being in the building on the day of the shooting, Adams’ case presented a conflict of interest.

The board has applied for a private legal practitioner to represent him.

Magistrate Sibongiseni Mtwana postponed the criminal matter for two weeks.

"The Legal Aid board has appointed Judicare, but no one has accepted yet. So, your matter is postponed to May 9, 2025, for that Judicare to come on record. You both remain in custody until then."

A formal bail hearing for Adams and the alleged mastermind, Shireen Mathews, has been set down for 29 May and 6 June.
