JOHANNESBURG - Some landlords in Zola, Soweto, are complaining that they are losing business because of persistent power outages.
Several areas in the township, including Zola, Jabulani and Zondi, have been experiencing load reduction twice a day for four hours at a time since last September. Most recently, the outages have been prolonged indefinitely.
Eskom says the inconvenience to customers in the areas was caused by the breakdown of a transformer at its Zola substation.
A Zola resident, Jerry Zulu, says tenants are now reluctant to renew their leases because of rampant power cuts.
“Other tenants they even change places, saying we do not like areas like Jabulani or Zola because our area has never-ending load reduction.”
