CAPE TOWN - Minister in The Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni has confirmed that Higher Education Minister, Nobuhle Nkabane, has submitted her report to the president explaining her recent conduct in Parliament.

Ntshavheni told a post-Cabinet briefing on Thursday that Nkabane informed her that she’s submitted to the president after he instructed the minister to explain herself.

This follows her conduct during a recent Higher Education committee meeting, where she could be seen eating and being dismissive towards members of Parliament (MPs) who questioned her about the appointment of Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) board chairpersons.

Nkabane came under fire after footage of her dismissively responding to MPs during a committee meeting went viral two weeks ago.

Earlier this week, President Cyril Ramaphosa told journalists in Pretoria that the report from Nkabane explaining her behaviour hadn’t landed on his desk.

But Ntshavheni says Nkabane informed her on Wednesday that the report has been submitted.

“On Minister Nkabane and whether she has submitted the report, I’ve not verified with the president, but yesterday [Wednesday], she has informed me because she anticipated that this question will come through, she has indicated to me that she has submitted the report to the president.”

Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has written to the Higher Education committee chairperson calling on the committee to summon Nkabane to reveal her SETA board chairperson selection panel, after the minister refused at the last meeting.
