JOHANNESBURG -President Cyril Ramaphosa has touched down in Canada for the G7 Summit set to kick off on Monday.

Ramaphosa is set to use the meeting to rally global support as African states look to get a seat at the table of global superpowers.

With the exception of 2023 in Japan, Ramaphosa has attended every G7 Summit as a guest since becoming president in 2018.

This year's meeting of the economic bloc will focus on energy security.

Ramaphosa's first order of business is his participation in the G7 Summit outreach session, scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the G7 leaders' summit.

The session has been a feature of the group over the years, with the aim to strengthen unity among G7 members and to include other countries in deliberations on how to address some of the world’s most pressing issues.

Ramaphosa is expected to use the platform to engage with various leaders on areas of common interest in bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation, including South Africa's G20 presidency ahead of the G20 Leaders' Summit in November.

Last week, Canada's prime minister, Mark Carney, confirmed he had been on a call with Ramaphosa where they agreed to advance shared priorities, including energy, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, and wildfires.

Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola is part of Ramaphosa's delegation.
