JOHANNESBURG - Late Eastern Cape former judge president, Justice Clement Sangoni, will be honoured with an official provincial funeral category 2.
Justice Sangoni passed away last week at the age of 77, following a short illness.
The former judge president will be laid to rest at Qokolweni Great Place in Mthatha on Saturday.
Premier Oscar Mabuyane requested that the former judge president be granted a special funeral, to which President Cyril Ramaphosa approved.
The late justice was a towering figure in the country's judiciary and a respected traditional leader, who served as the senior traditional leader of the Qokolweni-Zimbane Traditional Council in Mthatha.
Mabuyane described Justice Sangoni as a humble servant of the law and the people, whose life embodied integrity, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to justice and public service.
Justice Sangoni's legal career spanned over four decades, culminating in his appointment as judge president of the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court in 2010, a position he held until his retirement in 2017.
