JOHANNESBURG - As recovery operations continue in some parts of flood-ravaged Eastern Cape, the provincial government said some progress has been made in the restoration of basic services.

Some families will soon begin the process of laying their loved one to rest after the conclusion of 80 post-mortems.

At the same time, provincial spokesperson, Khuselwa Ranjtie, said that emergency relief for thousands of displaced residents in the OR Tambo and Amathole districts continued.
She added that water has been partially restored to various areas in the district, with water tankers from both municipalities and the Department of Water and Sanitation continuing to provide water to affected areas.
"At Amathole, water provision has resumed, with the full pumping system still being restored. However, water supply in some communities is still limited and residents are urged to continue using water sparingly and as water will not return to all affected areas at once, as the system may take time to fully recover," said Ranjtie.
