Ethekwini projects Durban July will inject R690m into city's economy

DURBAN - The eThekwini Metro Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal says this year’s Durban July will inject R690 million into the city’s economy.
The annual betting event will take place on 5 July 2025 at the Greyville Racecourse in Durban.
The event is expected to provide thousands of jobs during the weekend.
The Ethekwini Metro Municipality says it's ready to host this year’s Durban July and expects about 45,000 people to visit the city during the weekend of the event.
City spokesperson Gugu Sisilana says a major boost is expected for the economy.
“Projections show that about R278.6 million boost in direct spend and R689.4 million GDP [Gross Domestic Product] contribution.”
Over 4,400 job opportunities are expected to be created during the period.
The transpiration, fashion, restaurants and fast-food businesses are also expected to benefit from the event.
The metro says this will go a long way towards the city's economy, especially during this winter season.
