The National E-Hailing Federation of South Africa (Nefsa) has reaffirmed that ‘the mother of all protests’ is coming.
BusinessTech reports that a national strike is imminent, as issues between drivers and Uber remain unresolved.
Despite the rapid growth of the local industry, the federation’s president, Elijah Uhuru Lekgowane, says fares have been cut by 36% since 2026, and drivers are being phased out involuntarily if their vehicles are older than five years.
In a recent interview with Zain Johnson on 702 and CapeTalk, he outlined that drivers are calling for a restructuring of pricing, an immediate halt to the phasing out of older cars, and a halt to the deactivation of driver profiles.
