'They will be missed': Spur's second-ever steak ranch in SA is closing

The iconic Spur brand remains a firm favourite with South Africans since the launch of the steakhouse chain in 1967.

Now Spur Corporation has announced that its second-oldest restaurant - Seven Spur in Cape Town, is set to close its doors.

Opened in 1968, the popular Sea Point steak ranch was originally located at the corner of Main and Conifer Roads, before moving to Arthurs Road in 2006.

All is not lost though - Spur gave the assurance that they will be finding a new home for this legendary spot.

Spur Corporation told News24 Food that the branch is closing because their lease has not been renewed as the landlord decided to redevelop the block.

Seven Spur will remain open until mid-August.

In a post on Facebook, patrons were  invited to share their Seven Spur experiences to be able to 'celebrate the good times together'.

Comments included memories of romances sparked at this steak ranch, and fond recollections of waitering there:

Joyful Grace: So many memories! My favourite Spur! I lived just across the road. During my first pregnancy that was my daily dinner place! Now a mother of 3. I still take my family there once in a while. Sad to know it's relocating .

Melanie Swain: This was the first Spur I worked at and loved every moment. Many great memories.
