JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA has questioned why its former Johannesburg council Speaker, Nobuhle Mthembu, resigned from the party only after being removed from her top position in the metro.

Mthembu announced her departure on Friday, saying the party no longer represented the values she stands for.

She previously served as ActionSA’s regional leader in Johannesburg and held the role of Speaker of council.

ActionSA has acknowledged the resignation of Mthembu from both the party and her position as a councillor in the City of Johannesburg.

Her exit comes nearly two months after she was removed from her role as Speaker of council through a motion of no confidence.

Mthembu said she was leaving politics to focus on her NGO, but ActionSA suspects her resignation signals a move to another political party.

In her resignation letter, Mthembu criticised what she described as a lack of internal democracy within ActionSA.

While the party has wished her success in her future endeavours, it has questioned the timing of her decision, noting that she only resigned after being ousted as Speaker.
