The magistrate presiding over the bail application of suspended top cop Fannie Nkosi says the State’s case against him appears to be strong.
The suspended sergeant was denied bail in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Nkosi was arrested at his home earlier this month when police allegedly discovered firearms, ammunition, and official dockets during a raid.
He was previously a key witness in the Madlanga Commission, where other witnesses accused him of acting as a middleman between senior police officers and alleged crime kingpins.

Magistrate Thandi Theledi was not convinced by Sergeant Nkosi’s arguments for release pending the outcome of his trial. In her ruling, she questioned his credibility, highlighting that he failed to explain the guns, stun grenades, and dockets found in his possession.
Theledi also pointed to the potential for significant public outcry should Nkosi be released. Consequently, Nkosi will remain in custody until next month, when the matter is scheduled to return to court.
