JOHANNESBURG - The charred remains of a man have been discovered under burnt metal rubble at the Katlehong north informal settlement, in Ekurhuleni.
The metro’s Emergency Management Services (EMS) were notified of the body by community members after the structure was dismantled on Wednesday morning.
It's understood that a fire broke out in the informal settlement on Tuesday night.
According to preliminary reports, the death may be linked to a mob justice attack.
Ekurhuleni EMS spokesperson, William Ntladi, said the identity of the patient has to be withheld for safety reasons.
“The firefighters responded with the water tanker fire engine, and on arrival, the shack was found extinguished and dismantled by residents. A severely charred body was identified under the burnt building rubble. The patient is thirty-five years old.”
