Walmart set to open its first store in South Africa before the end of 2025

Walmart is expanding to South Africa.

The company announced that its first branded stores will open before the end of the year, with its signature bright lights, wide aisles, and bulk-buying options.

These will be new stores, in addition to Massmart’s current brands Makro, Game, and Builders Warehouse.

"I suppose, the question for us is, how is it going to distinguish itself from those brands? And also will South Africans swap the supermarkets they're quite loyal to for the Walmart logo? I don't know..."
