Android users, heads up!
Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab issued a report saying there’s been a 29% increase in hacker attacks on Android smartphones in the first half of 2025 compared to the same time in 2024.
Android cyber attacks are up 48% from just six months ago, reports Goldstuck.
Hackers are tricking users into downloading fake apps or software that secretly steal personal information.
Some of these apps even disguise themselves as tools like VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), which are meant to protect you but, if fake, can open the door to cybercriminals.
How to protect your Android device:
According to Kaspersky, here are four key steps you can take:
-
Stick to official app stores: only download apps from trusted sources like Google Play. Always check reviews and ratings first.
-
Don’t click suspicious links: especially on social media. Only download files or apps from official websites.
-
Install reputable security software: use a trusted antivirus app to detect and block threats.
-
Review app permissions: avoid granting apps access to sensitive data like emails unless absolutely necessary.
-
Keep your OS updated.
