JOHANNESBURG - Cricket South Africa named the Proteas men’s squads for the T20 international against Namibia next month, as well as the tour of Pakistan in October and November.
Captain Temba Bavuma will miss the Tests and ODI matches in Pakistan as he continues to recover from an injury he sustained during the recent drawn series against England earlier this month. In his absence, Aiden Markram will lead the Test team, while surprisingly, Matthew Breetzke will captain the team in the 50-over matches.
The most notable inclusion in the limited overs squads is that of former Proteas captain Quinton de Kock, who was come out of retirement. De Kock retired from ODI cricket after the 2023 Cricket World Cup and last represented South Africa at the 2024 T20 World Cup, where the Proteas lost to India in the final.
"Quinton’s return to the white-ball space is a major boost for us. When we spoke last month about his future, it was clear that he still has a strong ambition to represent his country. Everyone knows the quality he brings to the side, and having him back can only benefit the team," said Proteas coach, Shukri Conrad, of De Kock’s comeback.
The Proteas will play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20s in Pakistan, starting on 12 October, while the T20 match against Namibia takes place on 11 October.
