Mashaba: ActionSA open to working with DA should coalition be needed to govern Joburg

Former Johannesburg mayor and ActionSA president, Herman Mashaba, said his party is open to working with the Democratic Alliance (DA) should a coalition government be needed to govern Johannesburg.
 
Last week, the DA announced its federal council chairperson and former Cape Town mayor, Helen Zille, as its Johannesburg mayoral candidate.
 
Mashaba said ActionSA was not there yet, but it would make an announcement before the elections.
 
The date of the local government election has not been set yet; however, it's expected between November 2026 and the end of January 2027.

Mashaba said ActionSA would have conditions for a coalition with the DA.
 
"We would want to have a written, public document, where we commit to the priorities of the city, and one of those priorities is to provide services to poor South Africans. As the DA, they must also commit to our project for mass deportation of illegal foreigners."
 
Mashaba said his party was also willing to revisit its relationship with the African National Congress (ANC).
 
"One thing that I have come to realise in politics is that being the mayor is not determined by Herman Mashaba but by the voters. So, what I'm saying to South Africa is that as ActionSA, we will work with any party."
