The Western Cape Mobility Department says the situation on closed taxi routes in some parts of Cape Town remains calm.

It's been nine days since routes from Mfuleni and Khayelitsha to Somerset West have been shut down due to taxi-related violence.

Recent conflict over these routes between taxi associations CATA and CODETA has led to deadly violence, with at least 10 operators and commuters killed, and others wounded in shootings.

CODETA has approached the courts to overturn the 30-day taxi route closures, saying they're being unfairly punished by the provincial government.

The route closures have been implemented to prevent further violence within the taxi industry in Cape Town.

The provincial obility department said that law enforcement agencies would remain deployed to ensure the enforcement of measures.

Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku said that his door remains open should rival taxi associations want to resume talks.

"I would like to thank our commuters for their patience during this period. We will continue with the deployment of the alternative transport services."

It's still unclear when CATA and CODETA will return to the negotiating table.
