DA leadership race: Two senior leaders expected to make announcements

The race for the top job in the Democratic Alliance (DA) is heating up, with two senior leaders expected to signal their intentions on Friday.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis is widely tipped to enter the contest for federal leader. 
 
He’s called a media briefing in Elsies River for what’s being described as an important announcement, just a day before nominations officially open.

If elected, Hill-Lewis will take over from current DA federal leader John Steenhuisen, who has indicated he will not seek re-election.

Meanwhile, the party’s Gauteng leader, Solly Msimanga, is also expected to make an announcement on Friday.

He's tipped to contest the same position.

Msimanga previously ran for national leadership in 2018, but his bid for federal chairperson was unsuccessful.

With nominations opening on Saturday, the battle for the DA’s leadership appears poised to begin in earnest.
