KwaZulu-Natal Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Elaine Harrison said she learned about the disbandment of the provincial political killings task team (PKTT) on social media.

Elaine Harrison is testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Friday morning about her stance on Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu’s directive to dissolve the unit.

Last week, the commission heard that Harrison had assigned a team of prosecutors to work alongside the unit to ensure that investigations into 121 dockets were prosecution-led.

Harrison confirmed that she was never formally notified about the disbandment of the task team.

“I heard about the disestablishment of the KZN political killings task team through the media. It was floating on social media from about the 3rd of January.”
