The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)’s Student Command in Gauteng has launched a campaign to help learners with tertiary enrolment and funding applications.
Provincial convenor Mmeli Gabashe said many learners in township and rural schools struggled with university processes or lacked resources to complete applications.
He said the drive comes as application deadlines draw near.
The campaign is being run with the support of Student Representative Councils (SRCs) from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and the University of South Africa (UNISA).
Gabashe said learners were receiving assistance with course selection, application submissions and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funding.
"We know very well that in our communities, learners, it's not that they don't meet requirements or they do not qualify to go to these institutions of higher learning, the only thing is that they are not aware of the processes and the platforms that exist because both the institutions and the government deliberately starve our schools of such information and such platforms."
