Outside his politics, the late Ambassador to France and Monaco, Nathi Mthethwa, has been described as a family man.

Mthethwa will be laid to rest in KwaMbonambi, northern KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday.

His mortal remains were taken inside the family home last night, where his former colleagues, African National Congress (ANC) leaders, and members also gathered to welcome him.

A short prayer by members of the Nazareth Baptist Church took place at the Mthethwa homestead’s gate, shortly after a private family ritual was performed on the late Ambassador’s coffin.

Mthethwa has been largely described as a freedom fighter who gave his life to public service, even during the apartheid era.

However, one of his former colleagues and friend, Malusi Gigaba, described Mthethwa as someone who loved his family:

“He was an all-rounded person who, in the end, he also loved his family. He was a family man, he loved his wife, his children and his family and friends.”

President Cyril Ramaphosa will today eulogise the former Minister.
