The alleged leader of the Terrible West Siders gang, who's on trial alongside alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack and 14 others, has applied to be released on bail.

Toufeek Brown, Modack and their co-accused face 122 charges for various crimes, including murder, extortion, fraud, corruption, and money laundering.

The trial was delayed again on Monday after being postponed for a second time due to the presiding judge not being available, following a lengthy six-month break.

Last week, defence attorney Inger Jansen told the court she filed affidavits for her clients, Brown and Jacques Cronje, to be released on bail.

Cronje's bail application was subsequently revoked as he faces charges in a separate matter, related to illegal possession of a firearm.

Cronje is believed to be "the muscle" in Modack's nightclub security firm, while Brown faces charges for allegedly using the Terrible West Siders gang to orchestrate murders on behalf of Modack.

Jansen said that she filed a fresh affidavit for Brown's bail application to go ahead, and she's now awaiting feedback from the judge president.

"Just in terms of the bail application for accused number four, I filed a fresh affidavit on Monday last week."

The matter will be back in court on 3 November pending the availability of presiding Judge Robert Henney, who is presumed to be ill.
