The family of slain KwaZulu-Natal Crime Intelligence officer Sbonelo Ngidi is calling on police to properly investigate the motive behind his killing.
Ngidi was shot and killed allegedly by another police officer, in what is believed to have been a road rage incident in Mariannhill, Durban, a week ago.
The accused officer, Andile Philani Zulu, made his first court appearance in the Pinetown Magistrates Court on Monday. He is charged with murder, handling a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, and attempted murder.

While police have stated that Ngidi’s killing was the result of road rage, the family is not fully convinced. They believe the suspect may have been targeting the deceased for a while.
The family spokesperson, Nombuso Ngidi, made an appeal for justice.
"We wish that law enforcement authorities will play their role so that we can get justice since Sbonelo is no more, and we want to know the reason he was killed,"she said.
Ngidi added that the family believes this was not just a case of a trigger-happy suspect.
"It was not a mistake, hence as the family we expect justice from the law. We want to actually investigate whether this arrested suspect was alone when he carried out this hit. We think this was carried out by a group."
Zulu has been remanded in custody for an identity parade and is scheduled to return to the dock on 27 October.
