Emergency services personnel in Gauteng are cautioning residents about flash floods, particularly in low-lying areas.

This as parts of Ekurhuleni are currently battling flooding in some areas on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency personnel remain on high alert as several areas have been hit by heavy rains.

The weather service has also sent out an alert for thunderstorms in the province.

Ekurhuleni EMS spokesperson William Ntladi: "What's happening currently is we have sent out firefighters to those areas which are known to be flooding areas but so far, everything is going well."

Joburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi also weighed in on the situation in the city.

"Our motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving, extend a safe following distance and try and avoid crossing flooded roads and low-lying bridges."
