Democratic Alliance (DA) mayoral hopeful for Johannesburg - Helen Zille - will officially make the city her home again this week.
Zille has already kicked off her election campaign for the next local government elections - which at their earliest are a year away - while still permanently a resident in Cape Town.
But she’s indicated that she’s ready to make the permanent move to Joburg and get stuck into her campaign.
During her career in politics, the 74-year-old has been both the mayor of Cape Town and the Western Cape premier.
Zille said during her December break - she will be combing through the city’s budget and other documents as part of her preparation to vie for a city in decay.
“I work with very good people, and the only message we have to get across to them is this: that if they want to rescue their city, they know what to do. They don’t have to like me, they certainly don’t have to like the DA, they just have to love Joburg to do the right thing by Joburg. We believe in Joburg, and they must too.”
