Modack denies ordering ping to track attorney William Booth

Alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack on Thursday denied using two "pingers" to track the whereabouts of prominent attorney, William Booth.

Booth survived an attempt on his life at his Higgovale home in April 2020.

The incident forms part of the 122 charges Modack and 14 others face in a high-profile trial at the Western Cape High Court.

State prosecutor Greg Wolmarans continued his cross-examination of Nafiz Modack on Thursday, focusing on the attempted murder of criminal defense attorney William Booth in April 2020. Modack and four co-accused face charges of attempted murder related to the incident.

Wolmarans used evidence of ping lists to show co-accused Zane Kilian and a former State witness, Calvin Rafadi, were tracking Booth in September 2019.

During his testimony, Rafadi told the court that Modack instructed him to "ping" Booth. However, on Thursday Modack denied giving the order.

Wolmarans put the instruction to Modack: "You contacted Rafadi and you would have asked Rafadi at 17:39 to ping Booth."

Modack's response was definitive:

"That's false, my Lord."

Wolmarans will continue his cross-examination of Modack on Monday.
