The matter of 121 dockets that were submitted to police headquarters by the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Political Killings’ Task Team (PKTT) will, once again, take centre stage at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Friday morning.
Acting Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection Khosi Senthumule will appear before the commission to discuss her role in the handling of the dockets.
The dockets were formally handed over to Senthumule in her role as divisional commissioner for Detective and Forensic Services in March.
During her appearance before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry two weeks ago, the South African Police Services (SAPS)’s head of serious and violent crimes, Mary Motsepe, detailed how Senthumule informed her she would handle the 121 PKTT dockets.
“That’s when General Senthumule asked me if I was aware the PKTT has been disbanded. Then I said I’m not aware. Then she said all those dockets are coming to me, which was fine because political killings falls within my mandate.”
Motsepe said she was instructed to oversee an audit of he dockets, with Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga questioning why this wasn’t done in KZN.
“Why did the dockets have to come up to head office for that simple process?”
Senthumule is expected to speak on what input suspended Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya had regarding the transfer of the dockets.
