WEATHER: Gauteng braces for heavy afternoon storms on Thursday

Both Johannesburg and Pretoria gear up for potential downpours on Thursday, according to AccuWeather.

In Johannesburg, the day begins warm and mild. Still, skies will thicken by afternoon, bringing heavy thunderstorms with up to an 80% chance of precipitation and a 48% chance of lightning and hail — conditions that could trigger flash flooding.

The temperature is expected to peak at around 24–26 °C before dropping to a cooler evening low near 14–16 °C.

Meanwhile, Pretoria should brace for a hot and humid day ahead. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with thunderstorms likely in the afternoon amid a 57% precipitation probability — and a high UV index of 11, adding to the risk of heat-related stress.

The mercury will climb to the low 30s °C, before cooling to around 15–17 °C overnight.
