The African National Congress's (ANC) National General Council (NGC) has noted that some parties within the Government of National Unity (GNU) are actively working to undo the government’s transformation policies.

Over the past four days, thousands of delegates have been meeting at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg to discuss a number of issues affecting the party.

This was the first NGC since the ANC formed a national coalition government with nine other parties.

Part of the discussions included the ANC’s GNU partner, the Democratic Alliance (DA), which wants to scrap the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) policy and has challenged the implementation of the Expropriation and National Health Insurance (NHI) Acts.

In his closing address, ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that the NGC has declared it will not allow any party to undo any of those transformation policies.

“The NGC reaffirms its commitment to a broad-based structural transformation and all socio-economic redress policies. Which means the NGC reiterates the ANC’s position on BBBEE. We cannot retreat on that.”
