CoJ warns residents about crime increase over festive season

The City of Johannesburg is urging residents to be extra vigilant over the festive season, as crime typically rises this time of year.
The Johannesburg Central Police Station usually records a surge in incidents over the Christmas period, particularly contact crimes.
To help ensure public safety, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department has deployed additional personnel for the holiday season.
Addressing a media briefing this morning, Public Safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku said while law enforcement will be visible on the ground, residents must also remain cautious.
“We are sending a strong message to residents to exercise extreme care with fireworks, candles, open flames, and traditional rituals. The risk identified is the issue of fireworks over the festive season.”
