The City of Ekurhuleni’s head of HR, Linda Gxasheka, has been suspended with immediate effect.

She is accused of allegedly shielding Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) chief Julius Mkhwanazi from suspension.

Gxasheka was recently implicated at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry for failing to implement an Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) report that recommended disciplinary action against Mkhwanazi.

Two years ago, IPID investigated allegations that Mkhwanazi had entered the EMPD into fraudulent contracts with companies owned by Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The report found that the contract unlawfully allowed Matlala access to EMPD blue lights.
