Fallen officer: Young Cape Town policeman killed by drunk driver

A 20-year-old Cape Town police officer has tragically died after being struck and killed by a drunk driver while assisting at an accident scene.
The incident occurred on Jakes Gerwel Drive, near Samora Machel, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Wayne Dyason, Spokesperson for the City's Law Enforcement, confirmed the details:
"During the early hours of this morning, the off-duty officer stopped to assist at an accident scene on Jakes Gerwel Drive. It was during this time that he was struck by a vehicle, and it was later determined that the motorist was under the influence of alcohol."
Dyason further stated that the drunk driver has been detained at the Samora Machel Police Station.
Expressing the directorate's deep sorrow, Dyason extended his condolences: "We extend our condolences to the officer's loved ones and his colleagues. This is an absolute tragic end to a young life. The officer was just 20 years old. The safety and security directorate will work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served and that the suspect faces the full might of the law."
