Eugene Modise has been re-elected as the ANC’s regional chairperson for the capital.
Modise was declared the winner after his nomination went uncontested.
The nomination process took place on Saturday night at the Velmore Hotel in Pretoria, where the ANC’s Greater Tshwane Region is holding its 12th Regional Conference.
Modise, who is also the outgoing Deputy Mayor of Tshwane, came into the ANC’s regional conference with a cloud hanging over his head.
Last month, a forensic investigation report was tabled before council, finding that he breached the code of conduct for councillors by benefiting from a company doing business with the Tshwane Municipality.
However, the report did little to dent the deputy mayor’s popularity among ANC Tshwane members, as he was elected unopposed.
Another popular figure in ANC Tshwane circles, George Matjila, was also re-elected unopposed as regional secretary.
Sam Mashola achieved a similar outcome, once again securing the position of regional deputy secretary.
The two other contested positions in the top five, deputy chairperson and regional treasurer, will be voted on Sunday afternoon.
