Residents in parts of Midrand continue to experience intermittent water supply, despite Johannesburg Water confirming that services were restored following recent maintenance.
Several areas remain affected, leaving many households without a reliable water source. The Noordwyk Residents’ Association stated that the prolonged disruptions have left residents frustrated, with no clear timeline provided for a permanent solution.
Chairperson Bonginkosi Nhlapho confirmed that the community has decided to take action to draw attention to the ongoing crisis. A peaceful demonstration has been called for Sunday at the Johannesburg Water depot on 6th Road in Noordwyk.
Nhlapho expressed the community's growing distrust regarding the cause of the outages.
“We had two meetings with J-Water and councillors, and nothing came out of those meetings, and we have no knowledge of when the water will come back permanently,” said Nhlapho. “This seems like a man-made crisis to feed the water tanker mafia.”
The demonstration aims to demand accountability and a definitive resolution to the infrastructure challenges facing the suburb.
