Nearly 12,000 children have been fitted with Identikidz safety bracelets since the start of the festive season as beachgoers flock to Cape Town’s coastline.

The youth safety programme allows parents and guardians to register their children to ensure they can be quickly located should they go missing. Each Identikidz bracelet carries a unique serial number linked directly to the contact details of a parent or guardian.

In the past week alone, 11 children were safely reunited with their families amid overwhelming crowds at Cape Town’s beaches. This free initiative, launched by the Community, Arts and Culture Development Department, provides an essential layer of protection for families during the busy holiday period.

HOW TO REGISTER
Parents and guardians are encouraged to register all children at the programme's green containers located at all participating beaches.

The programme will run for a total of 15 days, operating during the following peak dates:

Dates: December 14–15, 21–22, 25–26, and 29–31; January 1, 4–5, and 11–12.

Times: 09:00 to 18:30.

The Identikidz service is free of charge and designed to offer peace of mind to families enjoying the city's coastal amenities.
