Firefighters in the Western Cape remain on high alert as they work to contain a persistent wildfire in the Stanford area of the Overberg region.

Reinhard Geldenhuys, the Overberg District Municipality Fire Chief, confirmed that while the Stanford blaze remains a priority, a separate fire in the Caledon area is now fairly well contained.

"There's still a line burning in the mountain [in Caledon]," Geldenhuys stated. "At this stage, there's no risk to property, and it will burn itself out."

Geldenhuys says the Stanford fire is still very active.

"Overstrand and Overberg fire departments are working it. Aerial resources have been deployed to try and contain lines. And several firefighting teams and four ground teams on the ground fighting it."
