The death toll in the Bekkersdal tavern mass shooting has risen to 10.

This is after one of the victims who had been hospitalised succumbed to their injuries.

On Sunday morning, 12 suspects stormed the establishment, killing nine people and injuring ten others.

Gauteng police also confirmed that they have identified two individuals as possible suspects in the mass shooting.

Acting Premier Jacob Mamabolo, joined by Acting Gauteng Police Commissioner Fred Kekana, held a briefing on Tuesday at a community hall in the area to provide an update on the progress of the investigation.

Police announced that information from eyewitnesses indicates the group of men who ambushed the patrons on Sunday morning were all southern Sotho speakers.

He also told families that two individuals have been identified as possible suspects so far.

“We still need assistance from the community. We still need information from anyone who knows the suspects or a certain group of people.”

Kekana added that more information will be revealed following further questioning of the potential suspects.
