As tributes continue to pour in for slain media personality Warrick ‘DJ Warras’ Stock, his loved ones have urged South Africans to carry forward his values and the deep affinity he had for his country.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Rosebank. Stock was killed last week in Johannesburg’s CBD, just outside the previously hijacked Zambesi Building. At the time of the shooting, he had been contracted to manage security at the premises.

A CALL FOR JUSTICE AND REFORM
Following his death, many have called for justice to be served. Friends noted that his passing reflects South Africa’s ongoing struggle with rampant crime and the vacuum left by inadequate law enforcement.
“Warras was an entertainer; he had no business being in security, but he did it because there was clearly a gap,” said podcaster Penuel Mlotshwa. “I’m not going to blame anyone in government per se, but there is a gap when it comes to crime and getting things done. We’ve got people who are putting their hands up because the laws of this country are being disrespected. I feel hopeless right now.”

PROCESSING THE LOSS
Colleague and friend Phindi Madubela, popularly known as DJ PH, shared that he has yet to fully process the loss, having been focused on the logistics of the memorial and funeral.
“It’s hard. I think, naturally, it’s sad—let me start there," Madubela said. "But throughout the entire week, I’ve just been focused on seeing the funeral through and seeing the memorial through. Processing the emotions, I think, will happen afterwards.”

LIVING THE LEGACY
The atmosphere in the church was heavy with grief as congregants gathered for a peaceful send-off. His sister, Nicole Stock Mabuza, delivered a poignant message, urging the public to honour her brother’s spirit by protecting their communities.
“Let’s fight for each other. That’s what Warrick was about. Let’s fight for the community. Let’s fight for our home, for what is within reach,” Mabuza said. “You know, positivity, because there’s power in our words. And I’m seeing the power of Warrick’s words around everybody. That’s the message I want to give to South Africa. We must live who Warrick was. And yes, we are allowed to cry. We are allowed to be vulnerable.”
