While South Africans are known for their generosity, research has now confirmed this reputation.

A new international study conducted by digital financial services provider Remitly ranked South Africa the ‘most generous’ country, with a score of 51.57 out of 60.

The study analysed 25 countries, with the Philippines coming in second, and the United States ranked third.

Good Things Guy founder Brent Lindeque explains that the recognition was meaningful as it looked at generosity as a broader human behaviour – encompassing empathy, emotional support, patience, kindness, and putting others first.

“South Africans are incredible generous, we see it in the stories that we tell and we see it all around us… Ubuntu really does live here,” he says.
