Thelle Mogoerane Hospital welcomes six Christmas miracles

Six “Christmas babies” have been welcomed at the Thelle Mogoerane Hospital in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.

Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko visited the hospital on Thursday morning, where she expressed joy with the maternity ward staff for ensuring successful deliveries.

As part of spreading the festive cheer, Ralehoko and Ekurhuleni mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza have also handed out gifts to the new mothers.

The starter packages given to the mothers consist of baby bathtubs, towels, feeding supplies and other essentials.

“I am really happy because we didn't have any incidents, even in other hospitals. Those that we have received at Thelle Mogoerane are healthy, and the mothers are healthy too." she added. 

At the same time the Gauteng Health Department says it has strengthened its relationship with Home Affairs to ensure that as soon as babies are born, they register for birth certificates.

MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko says all 37 hospitals in the province have home affairs officials on site now to work with the parents of newborns.

The MEC says she is pleased with how quickly home affairs staffers were able to work with the new mothers on Christmas Day to ensure the registrations of these births.

"We are spreading the offices, including the community health centres. We do now have some officials from home affairs so that they can capture those children immediately, so I think I am happy with that relationship that we built when the deputy minister and minister were here," she added.
